The EDW server is the core product of the platform with which all modules integrate. The EDW server acquires handwriting from the digital pen, interprets the handwriting and converts it to electronic data. It provides the output in industry standard formats; XML for the interpreted data, and PDF, TIF, GIF, PNG, or JPG for the page images. The EDW server is cost-effective, easy to implement and scale, and can be installed and configured in as little as one day. The product includes comprehensive documentation on installation, administration, and configuration.
Forms Manager is the application which enables adding fields for handwriting interpretation and the assignment of datatypes for highly accurate interpretation. Each field is formatted and assigned a datatype. Selection of correct datatypes, as well as proper formatting, is essential to the accuracy and performance of handwriting interpretation and verification. Please see Key Features for more information about datatypes.
EDW Router acquisition software is a PC-based client that receives handwriting files from the digital pens via a USB connection, and then securely transmits the handwriting files to the EDW server. The EDW Router acquisition client can be customized to run in the background with no visible screen interaction, or it can be configured to display a user interface showing the data transmission status. All received handwriting files are archived on the PC and the server for reliable data management.
EDW Mobile is a client application which installs on mobile communication devices. Handwritten strokes from the digital pen are received on the phone via a Bluetooth® connection and are then transmitted from the phone to the server.
The EDW Server Manager interface is a Web-based application for administration of the system. EDW Server Manager can be used to manage user accounts, pens, forms, security policies, datatypes and sheets. Access to these administrative capabilities is controlled by well-defined, role-based security rules.
EDW Form Viewer is a Web-based application where users can view and process forms. It presents form images to the user with the handwritten and interpreted data. Users can then edit and verify the handwriting interpretation, approve a document, seal a document against future writing or changes, and print and e-mail images of a form.
EDW Field Verifier is a Web-based application that significantly reduces the time required to verify handwriting interpretations on form fields. It presents fields one-by-one for rapid examination, showing the image of the handwriting and the system’s interpretation. For increased efficiency, confidence thresholds can be set which identify the fields most likely to be interpreted correctly and remove them from the verification queue reducing the number of fields to be reviewed.
EDW™ Auditor provides a way to keep track of all data changes that occur in critical processes, captures the before and after data associated with any change and ensures that the audit trail is tamper-proof. EDW Auditor provides the capability of viewing audit trails for forms, users, digital pens, and groups.
EDW™ Commercial Print Manager enables the EDW platform licensees to print pattern forms in high volume at a commercial printer or in-house. EDW™ Commercial Print Manager is designed to address diverse needs by supporting different form configurations such as portrait, landscape, multipart forms with pattern on specific pages, etc. EDW™ Commercial Print Manager is designed to meet the needs of customers doing their own printing or of commercial print shops.
EDW Embedded Print Manager provides the capability to print digital forms on an as-needed basis, rather than ordering pre-printed pattern forms. This module provides the capability for users to enter customized variable data on each form page. EDW Embedded Print Manager can be accessed with simple commands or through the use of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
The EDW™ Desktop Print Manager is a Windows application for printing forms and documents on digital pattern. Desktop Print Manager handles three main categories of print jobs: Ad Hoc, EDW™ Platform predefined, and notebooks.
The Ad Hoc forms feature allows any document to be printed on pattern at the desktop in minutes. Ad Hoc forms are existing documents which are converted to PDF and printed on pattern from Desktop Print Manager without having been defined as an EDW Platform form.
Desktop Print Manager provides a mailbox feature for Ad Hoc documents. When these documents receive handwritten strokes, a PDF copy arrives in the Desktop Print Manager mailbox. Users can also select additional recipients to receive the copies directly from Desktop Print Manager.
On-demand desktop printing for predefined EDW Platform forms can also be done through Desktop Print Manager. When either type of document is printed with the Desktop Print Manager, corresponding form instances are automatically created in a designated catalog in the EDW Platform runtime environment. Once integrated with the EDW platform, these documents and forms are compatible with the majority of its features. For example, users can view these documents or forms in EDW™ Form Viewer and generate output to their back-end system.
Notebooks are intended for users who elect to take handwritten notes and view and transmit them in a digital format. Notebooks are printed by ExpeData, and viewed and managed through the Desktop Print Manager.
The EDW solutions offer an extensive set of application programming interfaces (APIs) to support flexible architecting of customer solutions. The APIs enable tight integration and real-time interaction between the EDW platform and enterprise applications. Customers can take advantage of digital writing features while selecting the type and level of integration that best meets their needs. These range from the use of ExpeData’s existing interfaces, to completely embedding the EDW solution within the customers’ applications and preserving the look and feel of existing applications. The API set applies to a wide variety of modules of the EDW platform including data acquisition, management of pen strokes, lexicon entries, user management, pen management, catalogs, forms, password policy options, and additional information. Both the EDW server and acquisition software can be entirely embedded within customer applications. The APIs enable high-performance integration with existing databases. Additionally, the EDW Embedded Print Manager services can be accessed using the API set.
Software Development Kits facilitate embedding of the EDW platform within customer applications. ExpeData offers a selection of development kit options for the ExpeData Enterprise Digital Writing (EDW) platform to meet different integration needs:
Intended for use by professional services organizations providing system integration and software development services. The ESDK is intended for development and non-production environments only. There are two ESDK versions available.
Intended for use by software engineers providing system integration and software development services.
The WSDK includes the following:
* WSDKs may only be purchased once an ESDK has been licensed.
